It has the look of “Delectable Mountains” or “Flying Geese” but is arranged differently. We love that the goslings are flying behind the goose, and everyone is going around with a pinwheel in the centers! Over dyed green and off white. Paper Note “For Ruth Grandma Johnson made for her, she was 72yrs old”. Densely hand quilted at 8-9 stitches per inch. Orange peel and 3/8 triple rod quilting. Visible pencil and faint blue pattern marks. Measures 89″ x 77″. Never used or laundered. Expertly completed and then deemed too special to use. OLD 1940s Quilt Feed Sack Prints All Cotton Machine Quilted GREAT Condition. Stored 75+ years, not used, nor cleaned. See a few stained spots near bottom of quilt which show up larger on back side. See where 2 corners have slight wear in fabric and 2 one inch areas on border have wear; I seems like all could easily be mended. From a Smoke and Pet FREE Home; H. As been in storage for 75+ years. Pattern : Baskets between Blocks in Rows of 6 Baskets by 6 Baskets. Design : Hand-pieced baskets, machine stitched appliqued handles. Blocks are machine stitched together. Age: Early 1940s or may be late 1930s. Hand Stitched Basket Pieces then Machine Stitched Blocks. Stitching: Hand-Pieced Baskets, Machine-Quilted Stitches with about 14 stitches per Inch. Quilting Stitches: Machine stitched tightly, like those of old treadle sewing machines, in rows about 1/2″ to 3/4″ apart. Baskets are mostly Feed Sack Fabrics. Made with 100% Cotton. Made with 100% Cotton; Gray Leaves on Cream print plus area of gray/cream stripes at bottom of quilt. Batting: feels like light weight cotton batting or may be light weight flannel blanket, not sure what it is. Size: 82″ wide x 84″ long.
